About

Tobias Zimmer (*1990) is an artist working with algorithms, carried out by machines as well as by humans. He studied Media Art and Design (MFA) at Bauhaus-University Weimar, after having completed a degree in Intermedia Design at the University of Applied Sciences Trier, Germany. In his work, he deals with the question how algorithms are paralleled by repetitive behaviour and automatisms of human life. His work addresses how the quantification and visualization of daily experiences can be accompanied by a feeling of contentment and safety. The computer – as a programmed machine – plays a vital part in most of his works, though the outcome is frequently placed in the physical world.

His works have been shown in museums and galleries for contemporary art, such as Saint-Ex culture numérique (Reims, 2021), La gaîté lyrique (Paris, 2016) and VISUAL (Ireland, 2015) among others. He also held teaching positions at Bauhaus-University Weimar and BTU Cottbus, conveying his approach to algorithmic art.
